The Empire Strikes Back

After the strong show of support across the state for our message of opportunity, the forces of the status quo began an assault on hope today. They are wrong on many fronts, some of which include:

On our opponents website, it states that they represent a broad view of the political spectrum. What would be more accurate to say is that they represent those that benefit from the current state of affairs in Illinois: corrupt, inefficient and undemocratic. They failed to mention that they are fighting to take away a constitutional convetion from the voters so that they will not lose power.

The Illinois constitution does not empower citizens, it empowers the political class.

There are structural problems and gaps in the current Illinois constitution. For instance, there is no ballot initiative, referendum or recall to ensure democratic practices; there is no enforcement to keep the budget balanced and our state prosperous; there is nothing to stop our executive officials from unconstitutional acts; and there is nothing to ensure an open and transparent government. This brief list offers but a few of the many structural deficiencies in the Illinois constitution.

The costs used to estimate a constitutional convention by our opponents are inflated.

Illinois government is already complacent and inactive-something that our opponents never minded before. Therefore, a concerted effort on behalf of citizens to reform their government through a constitutional convention would bypass our lazy political class, which our opponents represent.

The risk in not stepping forward and boldly solving our problems represents more danger to Illinois than a constitutional convention!
