“Yes” For Illinois

With nearly every connected interest agreeing to lobby for keeping Illinois a corrupt cesspool as long as they get their phone calls returned, it is good to see that the print media has a better understanding of what is wrong in Illinois.

The Champaign News-Gazette endorsed a “Yes” vote today, and we are very happy about it. Given that we didn’t even attend an “Editorial Board meeting” with them, it is heartening that they arrived at this decision on their own good judgment. We believe that this is indicative of the good citizens of Illinois, who intuitively know that there something much worse than Blagojevich and Ryan that ails Illinois.

Illinois suffers from a horrible 1970 Constitution that dis-empowered citizens and empowered a government to such an extent that we now likely have the most corrupt State Government in the 50 states.

Illinois Constitution is in need of changes

The coalition – known as the [no free advertising for bad arguments] – says it will spend $3 million to get its message out. And what is that message? “There is no question there has been too much inaction and infighting in Springfield, but it’s the politicians, not the Constitution, that are at fault,” said former state Rep. Nancy Kaszak, who is director of the coalition. “Changing our Constitution because we’re unhappy with our leaders of the moment would be like junking your entire car just because it has a flat tire.”

The analogy doesn’t work because there are more problems with the “car” than a “flat tire.”

The final authority for approving anything proposed by a constitutional convention, whether it is one or two revisions, several, or a wholesale rewrite, rests with the voters of Illinois. They deserve a chance to repair the flaws in the Constitution, and to make needed changes in Illinois government, that the politicians will not.
