New Book Makes Compelling Case for Constitutional Convention in Illinois
Advocates offer keen insights for change, and solid arguments that
could dramatically improve public accountability and quality of life
issues
(CHICAGO) - PRweb – June 26, 2008 – Is the case for a Constitutional
Convention in Illinois ironclad? Two Constitutional activists think
so, and have penned an important new title to help make their case.
Columnist John Bambenek and talk show host Bruno Behrend, authors of a
new book “Illinois Deserves Better: The Ironclad Case for an Illinois
Constitutional Convention,” takes readers through the current trials
and tribulations confronting Illinois, while reviewing the sad state
of affairs that exists as a direct result of the well-intentioned but
poorly conceived Constitution, arguing that Illinois’ problems can be
fixed by returning to citizen control through a constitutional
convention in 2008.
“Behrend and Bambenek offer clear insights and compelling arguments
for why Illinois so desperately needs a Constitutional Convention, and
the timing is ripe for policymakers, local media and concerned
community groups to take this seriously,” according to Michael Burns,
President and Co-founder of the Illinois Alliance for Parents and
Children, a Chicago-based public interest group that supports the
measure.
“On November 4, 2008, the citizens of Illinois will have a
once-in-a-generation opportunity to call a Constitutional Convention,”
says Bambenek. “If you stop reading this book after this
paragraph—please take away this singularly important message: If a
better Illinois and a more honest government is your goal–then there
is no intellectually sound reason to vote “No” on this ballot
question. This book will prove that proposition.”Amazon.com, shines a
bright light on how Illinois got into its current financial status,
and what we can do to find our way back. The authors layout a clear
case for how the state constitution is directly related to the massive
transfer of power from the citizens to government, offering solid
proposals that make for an elegant and concise set of solutions to
problems that plague Illinois, complete with model language.
Illinois Deserves Better is essential reading for anyone interested in
understanding the issues that made one of the most important states in
the Union a laughingstock across the nation. It goes on to provide a
roadmap for the way back to its rightful place as a respected
state–one governed by its citizens–and not an insulated and
un-serious political class.
About Us
The Illinois Citizens’ Coalition is an Illinois Political Action
Committee formed by concerned citizens who have come together to
address the downward spiral of Illinois’ political and financial
condition. The goal of our coalition is to inform and organize
Illinois citizens to take a larger interest in their state, and to
secure a “Yes” vote for the Illinois Constitiutional Convention
question in November of 2008, and other issues that are critical to
the cause of responsive government.
“At no time in our history have we had such an opportunity to correct
the wrongs that have been created over the last generation. “Illinois
Deserves Better” has helped to create new clarity to issues that have
been left on the back-burner for too long—and it has the audacity to
something that most of us can agree with—it’s time that we return
power to the citizens of Illinois,” says Burns.
Co-author John Bambenek, an academic professional at the University of
Illinois in Champaign, Illinois, has been at the forefront of the
debate to bring a Constitutional Convention to Illinois for more than
2 years, appearing on numerous talk shows and public forums across the
state. He has recently participated in debates at the Chicago Bar
Association and the State University Annuitants Association.
